Robby Wray - CEO
MonteCristo Consultants, LLC is a property development and construction consultancy founded in 2018 specializing in real estate development, marketing and construction.
From 1989 to 2016, Robby was the CEO and shareholder of two major Johannesburg-based development and construction companies. In the late 1990’s through early 2000’s, these companies partnered with JSE-listed (Johannesburg Stock Exchange), Anglo American Properties and together they completed a number of successful joint venture developments. (until the Anglo American Corporation began unbundling their subsidiary companies in early 2002).
Leading Wraypex Property Developers and WrayHarris Construction Company, Robby was responsible for the construction, marketing, sales and development of numerous high-end residential developments, primarily in Johannesburg. Other turn-key projects included high density townhomes and apartments, commercial office buildings, industrial warehousing units, bush game lodges, and in excess of 400 individual homes ranging in size from 2,000 sf to 34,000 sf. Over 1000 rental apartments and multi-unit condominiums were successfully completed ranging in size from 600sf to 1,500sf.
Completed projects under his management amounted to in excess of $700 million; 3.5 million square feet of construction and 3,000 acres.
Experience
In 2003, Robby purchased the family farm from the world-renowned golfer Gary Player, and developed a fully secure private estate in excess of 1,500 acres, developing a private equestrian center and golf course (ranked #2 in South Africa). This project included providing and installing all engineering services such as water (new 24 km main waterline), upgrading electrical utilities, constructing new sewage works and installing 26 km of roads and fiber optic connectivity.
Total cost of this project > $400 million.
More recently, after having restored and redeveloped a historical property in the South of France, Casa Mare Monti, Robby sold the property in 2018, before relocating to the US.
Robby’s early career started with Barclays Bank Real Estate Division, a subsidiary of the bank dealing with developer finance, from 1985 to 1988.
